Rain on Snow is a small retreat center offering a chance to bathe in the forest alongside the Wind River, located at the entrance to Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Surrounded by Whisky Creek, Cannavina Creek and the river we offer camping with an outdoor kitchen and bathing facilities for groups up to 16 persons on 15 acres.

There are several camping areas, see map below. We also have three canvas tents with beds, and a “tiny cabin” called the Long Tom.

The rustic kitchen has a two burner stove, small propane grill, covered seating area and outside fire pit which can be used for cooking. There is a hot and cold water wash station. The water comes from our well and is potable.

The WaShroom has a flush toilet, indoor sinks, indoor and outdoor showers, and a Finish style wood fired Sauna. There are also two outhouses located on the property.

Drive in, drop off you stuff, set up camp, have some lunch and walk down through the Douglas and grand fir, big leaf maple, alder, cotton wood, Oregon grape, sword ferns and wild flowers in season; listen to the wild life while you look for black tail dear, elk and the many species of birds; walk through the wetland while watching for newts and frogs and into an open meadow next to the Wind River. The grassy field is great for hanging with friends and family, practicing Tai Chi and yoga, stargazing and bonfires. The river offers cool water wading and swimming with a close by gravel bar that has revealed many types of rocks including some petrified wood and even a leaf fossil.

A few things to remember:

• Dogs are welcome except:

  • barky dogs

  • dogs who chase wildlife

  • dogs not under your immediate control and who don’t obey voice commands

  • no dogs in tiny homes, canvas tents, or the kitchen.

• No fires when county issues fire bans.

• There is no wifi. The local cell tower includes data for some carriers and voice and texting for all.
